“Annie! Annie! I found her!” Hannah yells as she hurries my direction, “I found her, we found Sarah!”

Not but 20 minutes earlier I had just given Sam her love letter. My team and I had gushed about God’s goodness and excitedly split up to go and see what else He had in store for our ATL (ask the Lord) day.

“I saw a woman and I felt God tell me to go back and talk with her. Raquel and I went back and gave her a rose and asked her name, and it’s Sarah!” Hannah explained as we speed-walked back to the bench where the girl was sitting and where Raquel, my other teammate, was waiting with her.

When I walked up, I spotted her, beautiful, with tears streaming down her cheeks. She had a huge smile on her face and she was shaking her head. I explained that God had given me her name earlier that day and that I had a love letter for her from Him.

“You have no idea how perfect the timing of this is,” she explained in disbelief.

I tore the letter out of my notebook and folded it up, handing it to her as she began to open up about her life. She explained that she knew Jesus and that she was a believer. She cried as she told us of the extreme hardship she had been walking through just a week earlier and our hearts broke for her loss.

“I’ve been asking God what was next for me now. The future feels so unknown,” she said.

As I mentioned in the last blog, God gives me the grace to not remember what He writes in the letters. I do remember, however, that God had asked Sarah to “take hold of His hand and allow Him to walk her through the traumas of her past and the unknowns of her future”. Isn’t it beautiful how He always, without fail, meets us where we are. He is a Father that longs to walk with us through the journey.

Raquel, Hannah and I talked with Sarah for a while. She spoke to us about how she had always been insecure about her name, not really feeling like it fit her.

“But, God spoke to me by name!” She exclaimed. “You could’ve met a million other Sarahs today, but God brought you to me! And I’ve been praying for a sign!”

She went on to talk about how her name means princess. Raquel just so happened to have a tiara in her bag that we had been given earlier that week. She got to place it upon Sarah’s head, reminding her of the anointing she has on her life and that God sees her as royalty.

We prayed with her and she told us how she was going to call her husband earlier to complain about her day, but now she couldn’t wait to call him and tell him about what had happened. We parted ways and she waved goodbye to us, tiara on her head and rose in hand.

Sarah’s letter taught me more about God’s intentionality. He is a God of the details and He is a God that goes after the one. He put us in downtown Boise, Idaho, on that street, at that specific time when Sarah was taking her break from work. He put her in Hannah’s line of vision and He pulled on Hannah’s heart to go and talk with her and ask her her name. If one decision from our day had been different, we might have missed her. But, our God is a God of divine appointments. He is a God that sees His children, knows His children and loves His children and He wants us to grow in deeper understanding of that. So, if you’re reading this, let me be one to remind you that you are seen, you are known, and you are deeply loved by God, the Father. And what an absolute privilege that is for us. I pray that over this next week, He would reveal this to you in unique and undeniable ways. That you would feel seen and sought after by Him and that you would remember that He always, always, comes after the one.

“O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I got up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.” Psalm 139:1-10

Much love and many blessings,

Annie

It really shows how he works through it all. And perfect verse to include. I’ve felt his hand of blessing on my head and him going before us. May He continue to And may we be willing to obey and let him use us! Can’t wait for the next blog!!

  8. “A love letter from God to me … it’s a love letter from God to me … it’s a love letter from A to Z … A love letter from God to me.”

These are the words from a song I sang in a church musical in 3rd grade — referring to the Bible. Your stories of the Love Letters remind me of this song and how the Holy Spirit is relentlessly pursuing us all as we sit in the presence of God and walk throughout our daily lives.

Thanks for faithfully sharing your testimony, Annie!
